What is a Professional Certificate in Social Justice?
The Professional Certificate in Social Justice is an opportunity to advance your knowledge and skills in a particular area of Social Justice by taking one of our 12-week, masters level modules. You can choose from a range of modules allowing you to focus on an area which is most relevant for your professional development and further education.
The Professional Certificate is awarded to students who register to and satisfactorily meet the attendance and assessment requirements for a ten-credit, level 4 module in the field of Social Justice. Depending on your choice of module you will enrol either in semester 1 (September to November) or semester 2 (January to April).
Who is the Professional Certificate in Social Justice for?
We welcome applicants from a wide a range of backgrounds, with diverse experience and interests, who are passionate about advancing social justice and equality. Applicants to the programme will hold a level 8 qualification or equivalent and must indicate how the module chosen will contribute to their professional development.
Current students are of various nationalities and include recent graduates, community activists, educators, health care professionals, civil servants and journalists.

What will I learn?
You will engage with cutting edge research in the field of social justice. You will learn about and develop your own ideas on a wide range of equality, human rights and global justice issues. The modules offered our directly relevant to the challenges of: researching and analysing social justice issues; understanding and developing policy responses to social justice challenges; campaigning and communicating. Our modules will equip you with critical thinking, analytical and other skills that are particularly relevant for those working in civil society, the NGO sector, policy, campaigning and research. We examine major social inequalities and social justice challenges, how they affect a diverse range of groups, and how they can be overcome. Our modules are taught by a leading, multidisciplinary team of researchers who are distinguished by a commitment to social change and to a genuinely engaged approach to teaching.

Current applicants may choose one of the following modules for the academic year 2024/5. Trimester 1 modules commence in September 2024, Trimester 2 modules in January 2025:

How do I apply?

When you receive the list of courses, you should look for “Professional Certificate in Social Justice”, code W217 (for those applying to take a module that runs in Semester 1) or W218 (for those applying to take a module that runs in Semester 2).
