(opens in a new window)Classical Sociological Theory introduces the founders of sociological theory – from Marx, Weber, Durkheim and Martineau through to Simmel, DuBois, Mead and others – locating each thinker within their own social, political and historical context.
(opens in a new window)Contemporary Sociological Theory takes a similar approach with a focus on contemporary thinkers and schools of thought – from Parsons and Merton to the Frankfurt School to Foucault, Bourdieu, Giddens and Hochschild - helpsing students understand the development of central sociological concepts and how they can help us understand the contemporary world.
Both of these comprehensive textbooks are are essential reading for students in Sociology and Sociological Theory.
Classical Sociological Theory and Contemporary Sociological Theory are published by SAGE Publishing.
