Asst Prof David McKeown
Dr. David McKeown is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering in University College Dublin, where he lectures on Applied Dynamics. He received his PhD from University College Dublin in 2009 and was the recipient of the IMechE Frederic Barnes Waldron Prize for his undergraduate studies. His research has been funded by the European Space Agency since 2011. His research projects to date include work on the DELIAN Arm, an experimental light flexible robot arm for future Mars rover missions in collaboration with Selex ES & ESA and the control of a large flexible space-based X-ray observatory (IXO). He has also led the development of a toolbox for vibration control of launch vehicles as part of European Space Agency’s Future Launcher Preparatory Programme (FLPP). David is the Engineering Manager of Ireland’s first Satellite EIRSAT-1, funded in part by ESA PRODEX and Future Missions Department (SCI-F). He is the EIRSAT-1 academic advisor for the Attitude, Determination and Control Systems (ADCS) subsystem and for the Wave Based Control (WBC) payload.
