UCD Boat Clubs Senior Ladies and Men's 8+ crews successfully defended their Corcoran and Gannon Cup titles at the annual Colours Boat races on the river Liffey in Dublin on Saturday March 25th.
Last Saturday saw the annual Colours Rowing event take place against Dublin rivals Trinity College on the River Liffey. There were four head to head events on the day, featuring the Novice and Senior men and women from UCD Boat Clubs and Trinity Boats Clubs. The races, which start at O'Connell Bridge, saw huge crowds line the banks of the river to watch the event.
Notably UCD retained both Senior titles with the Senior 8+ UCD Ladies Boat club crew retaining the Corcoran Cup. The crew was made up of Cox - Orla Kelly (Vice Captain), Stroke - Alison Daly, 7 - Sarah Daly, 6 - Dervila O'Brien, 5 - Ellie Scott (Captain), 4 - Aisling Barry, 3 - Lauryn Roche, 2 - Niamh Campbell and Bow - Tara Phelan. The crew was coached by Tom Sullivan.
While the UCD Mens Boat club Senior 8+ crew retained the Gannon Cup. The winning crew was Cox - Shauna Fitzsimons (Captain), Stroke Fintan Earley, 7 - Sam Daly, 6 -David Somers, 5- Paul Flood, 4 - Luke Dunleavy, 3 - Mika Ryan, 2 - Mikey Campion and bow - David Crooks. The crew was coached by Martin Feeley, Niall Farrell and Joe Ronaldson.
Unfortunately both Trinity Novice crews proved to be stronger than UCD's on the day, but based on the talent on show, the future looks bright for UCD rowing.
