From time to time you may encounter a difficulty in submitting an assignment by the due date. If you think this may happen, you can consider applying for an extension. You should use the university’s Late Submission of Coursework Policy to guide you, and to access the Late Submission form. Some key things to remember:
- This process is separate to the Extenuating Circumstances process, and is in place to support students and their schools to come to a local arrangement when it comes to recognising issues which have a short-term impact on the student’s ability to complete coursework on time.
- Depending on a student’s circumstances, extensions of up to 10 working days can be granted. Extension requests of more than 10 working days must be made via the university’s Extenuating Circumstances process.
- You are asked to request an extension in advance of the due date, to allow your module coordinator/school to assess the request and provide a response.
- Whether an extension is granted, and for how long, will depend on your circumstances. You should provide supporting documentation but it is not always required. This will be at the module coordinator’s/schools’ discretion.
- Although the Late Submission form is the official way to request an extension, some schools have devised their own systems so you are advised to check with your school in advance as to the appropriate process.
