Professor Tasman Crowe
VP for Sustainability
Professor Crowe has a degree in Zoology from Bristol University and a PhD in marine ecology at University of Sydney before carrying out postdoctoral research in Australia, Indonesia, Vanuatu and Southampton. He joined UCD in 2001 and has served as Director of the UCD Earth Institute, Associate Dean of Science, Chair of the Liberal Arts and Science Programme Board and co-founded UCD’s BSc in Sustainability.
Professor Crowe was appointed chair of Ireland’s National Biodiversity Forum and of an advisory group to government on the expansion of Ireland’s network of Marine Protected Areas. He also served as President of the European Marine Biology Symposium.
Widely collaborating and leading on interdisciplinary research projects on marine ecosystems and their conservation and management, Professor Crowe has published over 120 research articles and received more than €4.8 million in research funding. He has supervised 24 PhD students to completion and mentored 22 postdoctoral researchers.
