UCD James Joyce library wins prestigious IFLA Green Library Award

The UCD Library has been named this year’s winner of the Green Library Award by the (opens in a new window)International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the global voice of the library and information profession.
The awards ceremony took place in Barcelona on Tuesday 8 October 2024 where UCD project leads Ursula Byrne and James Molloy gave a presentation on how libraries can support the circular economy.
The IFLA Green Library Award is given to libraries and projects that best communicate their commitment to environmental sustainability. Other shortlisted projects were from China, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine.
In the video above, Ursula and James show how the recycling of furniture from the 3rd floor of the library has had a positive impact on the wider community.
