World Migratory Bird Day 2024 highlights interdependence of insects and birds
Sunday, 5 May, 2024
Heard the cuckoo yet? Are swifts nesting in your eaves? Can you even imagine travelling 9,000kms without taking a break?!
Ahead of World Migratory Bird Day tomorrow, Dr Adam Kane speaks to the UCD Sustainability podcast about this year’s theme, ‘Protect Insects, Protect Birds.’
“This theme emphasises the interdependence between migratory species and insect populations, which seems to underpin a lot of the declines in migratory species across the world,” explains the Assistant Professor in the School of Biology and Environmental Science, University College Dublin.
Adam speaks about things we can do to offset some of these declines - and takes inspiration from how the transnational nature of our bird population mirrors the global effort now required to protect them.
