Are there mosquitoes in Ireland? UCD Earth Institute citizen science talk explores insect vectors

Wednesday, 12 June, 2024

Are there mosquitoes in Ireland? Do you think there might be some in your garden? Would you know how to spot an invasive species?

UCD Earth Institute invited members of NetVec (the network of insect vectors in Ireland) to talk about their work, as part of the UCD citizen science community of practice.

With the combined effects of climate change, widespread establishment of exotic vector-borne pathogens in continental Europe, and increased trade in livestock and goods between Ireland and the continent, Ireland is at increased risk from invasive arthropod vectors and vector-borne disease.

In this short video (which really gives a sense of the buzz in the room!) Annetta Zintl speaks about the work they do at NetVec - and how you can get involved.
