What a gorgeous trophy, with the Irish, American and Kenyan colours intertwined!
Congratulations to the UCD Nutribot team for winning second place at the Tri-continental Sustainability Competition in the University of Notre Dame this afternoon, with their pitch for an app to help users eat both nutritiously and sustainably. The Nutribot app’s unique features include AI-powered recommendations, a holistic health approach and a focus on sustainable produce and practices. Well done team - Laura McDermott, Joel Thomas Chacko, Anju Mariyam Joseph, Krishnateja Jinka and Nithiish Kumar Vijayadevan.
The overall winner was Strathmore University’s ITEDA Solutions team, who pitched a solar-powered crop drier to mitigate harvest loss, as traditional open-air drying is impacted by changing weather patterns.
And in third place was the University of Notre Dame's Nutripop team, and their pitch for a more sustainable and healthier alternative to Co2-heavy popcorn - popped water lily seeds.
All six pitches were thoughtful, engaging and promising - so well done to all the students from the three participating universities.
And thanks to everyone who tuned in!
