5.1 | NetWare Client Issues |
See Appendix F for relevant links and product Y2K compliance. |
5.2 | Special considerations |
Most of the NetWare clients can be configured (usually it's the default)
to set the time of the client computer to that of the server when the
client first attaches to the network, and again each time a user logs in
and a login script is executed.
The clients that support this are: VLM, Client 32 for DOS/Windows, Client 32/IntraNetWare for Windows 95/98/NT. Currently Client 32 does not support different time zones, unlike the VLM client which used the environment variable TZ
Both the date and time are set from the server, and the RTC of the machine
is updated as a result.
|
5.2.1 | VLM/Client 32 for DOS/Windows |
To ensure that the client will correctly set the time on connect, locate the
NET.CFG file (usually in C:\NWCLIENT ,
C:\NOVELL or C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 ).
The section "DOS requestor " should have a line reading
"SET STATION TIME = ON "
|
5.2.2 | Client 32 for Windows 95/98/NT |
To ensure that Client 32 is configured to set the workstation time when
the machine first connects to the network:
|
5.2.3 | Login script |
The NetWare login script supports the command SET_TIME which
can also be used to set the client time. Since the default is on,
all clients will synchronise during login script processing unless
the login script contains SET_TIME OFF
|
5.2.4 | SYSTIME |
NetWare also has program SYSTIME which sets the date
and time of the client PC to the date and time of the users's server, or
a named server. This program should be located in F:\PUBLIC .
This program can be used in a login script.
|
5.3 | PC Clients |
5.3.1 | NETX (DOS/Windows) |
The use of NETX is no longer supported.
|
5.3.2 | VLM (DOS/Windows) |
The VLM client should only be used for old PCs which are running
DOS/Windows. The use of VLM under Windows 95 is not recommended.
To determine the version of the VLM shell, execute the command VLM /? from a DOS prompt, and check the version displayed
on the first line of the output.
|
5.3.3 | Client 32 for DOS/Windows |
|
5.3.4 | IntraNetWare/Client 32 for Windows 95/98 |
To determine the version of Client 32 for Windows 95/98:
|
5.3.5 | Client 32 for Windows NT |
|
5.3.6 | Microsoft Clients for NetWare networks |
No information at this time (1999-11-18). |
5.4 | Macintosh Clients |
