How Can I Strengthen My Research?
Reflection
Have you given thought to your conceptual or theoretical framework for your study?
Conceptual Frameworks and Associated Measures
A framework or theory will help you structure and write up your study. Carlile and Jordan (2005) provide a good overview of the educational theories in higher education. You may also find some new ways of thinking about education in your own discipline, for example Mann (2011) highlights new ways of thinking about pedagogy in medical education.
There are many conceptual frameworks that guide education practice. Some of these have developed tools that can be used to measure dependent variables in quantitative studies. For some examples, see the table below. If you come across any useful tools or frameworks that would like to share, please contact geraldine.m.oneill@ucd.ie
