Brightspace has several features that enable staff  to apply a range of  grading and assessment settings to quizzes, while editing the quiz these can be found in the ‘assessments’ tab. The guide on Creating Quizzes and Creating Associated Grade Items in Brightspace; from UCD IT Services provides an overview of the process of setting up Quizzes and associated Grade Items in Brightspace to make use of the process to transfer grades to Banner Gradebook (Infohub).

When setting up a quiz you can change certain settings regarding grading and attempts. While editing the quiz you can select the preferred setting for your quiz via the ‘assessment’ tab. Quizzes can be graded, released and published manually or automatically by Brightspace.

Most question types allow for Automatic Grading so that you do not have to grade them manually. This can save a lot of time. Only Written Response questions cannot be auto graded.

When manually grading quizzes, you can either grade a quiz per attempt or grade a quiz per question and provide individual feedback on quiz submissions. This short video tutorial from Brightspace shows ‘How to Manually Grade a Quiz’ (1.46) You can also override the marks given for automatically graded questions. You can blind mark to avoid bias and you can in one step give all students the same mark and feedback for a particular question if appropriate.

You can control what the student sees after quiz submission i.e. whether the student can see their quiz attempt with right/wrong answers etc or not. This is controlled by the ‘Submission View’. You can view an ‘Attempt Log’ for each student showing when they launched (or re-launched)  the quiz, saved each question and submitted the quiz.
