SPEAKER SESSIONS: Oscar Wilde with Benedict Schlepper-Connolly

Join us on Tuesday 18 March at 12:00 in the UCD University Club for the next instalment of our Speaker Sessions lecture series where we welcome Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, Head of Exhibitions, Digital & Programming at MoLI – Museum of Literature Ireland.

Benedict will delve into MoLI’s upcoming exhibition, Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis: A Love Letter Rediscovered (open from 7 March – 1 October 2025), offering a fresh perspective on one of the most deeply personal and profound works in literary history.

Written during his two-year imprisonment, De Profundis is Wilde’s raw, philosophical, and deeply emotional letter to Lord Alfred Douglas—at times filled with sorrow, at times white with rage, at times heartbreakingly tender. The MoLI exhibition presents this powerful text through the voices of contemporary LGBTQ+ writers, artists, and activists, shedding new light on Wilde’s brilliant mind, tragic life, and enduring artistic legacy.

This is a must-attend event for literature lovers, offering a rare insight into a side of Wilde rarely seen—the thinker, the philosopher, the sensitive artist behind the wit and flamboyance over a delicious lunch for only €25 per person.

Register your attendance by clicking the button below or calling the Club Reception on (01) 716 2622.
