The Professional Certificate in Veterinary Education aims to develop and enhance your teaching practice as an educator of veterinary professionals. This programme will be of value to those actively involved in teaching and assessing veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing students.
This professional certificate will introduce and explore a variety of topics that form the foundation of evidence-based teaching, learning, and assessment practices in veterinary education and will be delivered by the UCD Academic Centre for Veterinary Education.

Topics covered include:
- Competency-based veterinary education.
- Teaching strategies to support students competency development: knowledge,
clinical skills and professional attributes. - Teaching strategies that can be applied for different learning contexts, e.g. large
group teaching, small group teaching, practical classes, clinical settings etc. - Approaches to assessment in veterinary education.
- Universal design for learning.
This Professional Certificate is a part-time programme harnessing a flexible approach to
delivery to accommodate busy professionals. While delivered primarily online, there are
two must attend, face to face sessions in UCD during the programme.
Students should expect the following workload:
- Attend 1 hour online live lecture x 12 weeks.
- Complete an individual / group learning activity x 12 weeks
- Attend a 2 hour on-campus tutorial session in UCD x 2.
- Completion of all assessment components.
These sessions will provide invaluable in-person learning opportunities with
tutors and other students.
