Message from Professor Michael Doherty,
Dean & Head of School
Dear Colleagues,
There are many reasons to be cheerful with the ‘coiscéim an choiligh’ stretch in the evenings and the recent installation of state-of-the-art MRI for both large and small animal patients in our UCD Veterinary Hospital – congratulations to Drs. Cliona Skelly, Seamus Hoey, Antonella Puggioni and all the DI team.
I was delighted to host colleagues at the Dean’s table for the recent annual vet ball on a wet and windy Saturday night after the Ireland-Wales rugby game - congratulations to Caitlin Kiel, Felicity Fitzpatrick and all the VetSoc team.
Also, very heartening to learn that Dr. Shauna O’Brien (MVB, 2017) was presented with the ‘Rising Star Award’ at the 2020 conference of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association. Shauna, who is an ambassador for our Alumni programme was described as ‘an advocate for staff at all levels in her practice’ and she also provides veterinary services for a local marsh wildlife centre – we are very proud of her.
Finally, I would also like to thank the School’s hard-working Accreditation Group preparing for November 2020, when the School will host accreditation visitations by the Veterinary Council of Ireland, the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Australasian Board and the RCVS!
A chairde, cuireann sé gliondar croí orm an leagan seo de Nuacht Phobal Tréidliachta UCD a sheoladh.
Very best wishes / le gach dea-ghuí,
Michael
