UCD Graduate Certificate in Dairy Herd Health

cows in fieldHerd health programmes and disease prevention are becoming ever more important for the sustainability of livestock production systems.

Applications are currently being taken for the next cycle of the Graduate Certificate in Dairy Herd Health beginning in August 2022. This 18-month online course draws on the experience gained by the UCD Dairy Herd Health Group in investigating many herd problems throughout Ireland. The programme will consist of modules in herd health skills, dairy herd fertility, nutrition and production disease, milk quality and mastitis, calf health and heifer rearing, and bio-secure/infectious diseases. 

How will students benefit from the UCD Graduate Certificate in Dairy Herd Health programme?

Students of the Graduate Certificate in Dairy Herd Health will have exposure to the wide range of experience of the UCD Dairy Herd Health Group. Students will also have access to the full electronic database of UCD Library which contains thousands of relevant scientific and professional journals to assist with independent learning and the development of a solid foundation in lifelong learning in the area of dairy herd health.

What qualifications do you need in order to apply?

Applicants must possess a degree in veterinary medicine that is registerable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland.  Applicants should be interested in cattle practice and ideally have at least one year of practice experience.

UCD Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine

small animal medicine graduate certificate logoAdvance your skills in Small Animal Medicine with this 18-month interactive online programme designed around evidence-based practice and the development of a practical problem-based approach to cases.

Applications are currently open for the new Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine beginning in September 2022.  This popular programme has been running for several years now and is moving to an 18-month schedule to allow participants more time to work on their skills and final project; this will facilitate enrolment of busy practitioners to the programme.

The new programme will consist of five modules taking a broad look across Small Animal Medicine with a focus on exploring newer areas and recent advances in the subject, all the time taking a practical approach and considering the evidence.  We are delighted to have more experts joining the programme team this year, allowing us to build a really engaging learning experience.
