Professional Certificate in Veterinary Education Commences
The UCD Centre for Veterinary Education has developed a new Professional Certificate Programme in Veterinary Education which aims to address the specific training needs of competency-based health professions education while accommodating the demanding schedules of busy veterinary educators.
The course commenced in January this year, and is being delivered primarily online over 12 weeks. Participants will be introduced to a variety of topics that form the foundation of evidence-based teaching, learning, and assessment practices in veterinary education.
The Professional Certificate in Veterinary Education aims to develop and enhance the teaching practice of educators of veterinary professionals and will be of particular value to those actively involved in teaching and assessing veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing students.
Topics covered include:
- Competency-based veterinary education
- Teaching strategies to support students competency development: knowledge, clinical skills and professional attributes
- Teaching strategies that can be applied for different learning contexts, e.g. large group teaching, small group teaching, practical classes, clinical settings etc
- Approaches to assessment in veterinary education
- Universal Design for Learning
The Professional Certificate in Veterinary Education is a part-time programme, harnessing a flexible approach to delivery to accommodate busy professionals. While delivered primarily online, there are two compulsory face to face sessions in UCD during the programme.
