In Profile: Sean Callanan
UCD Alumni’s Q&Alumni series recently profiled Class of 1987 MVB graduate and Dean of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) Sean Callanan, MVB, CertVR, MRCVS, PhD, FRCPath, DiplECVP. Dr Callanan has been a leader in Veterinary Medicine, research and pathology for 35 years, with more than 100 research publications and several leadership positions with the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, London’s Royal College of Pathologists and the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges. He was also recently selected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
In this feature, Sean talks about his time spent studying Veterinary Medicine at UCD, his memories of college life, how the degree has benefitted his career and where it has taken him, and keeping in touch with classmates. Sean also discusses the time he spent working in UCD, which included the Vet School’s move from Ballsbridge to Belfield. He also outlines some of the more challenging aspects of veterinary medicine, highlights some of the mentors who have helped him during his career to date whilst offering some useful advice for those starting out in the veterinary professions.
