Academic Book Raffle
We were once again overwhelmed by the generosity of our graduating class of 2022 when it came to donations for our yearly book raffle and veterinary items giveaway. Every year, we ask our final years to donate any items they would like to pass on to our incoming first years and continuing students, and these are raffled for charity (the ISPCA & One In Four for 2022). The raffle raised more than €700, and this has since been distributed equally between the two charities. The Dean and Head of School, Michael Doherty, also donated four of his own books which drummed up lots of interest and inspired a lot of donations!
Our graduates also donated household goods, stationery, wellies and coveralls, and lots of other items that a new or continuing student might need to feel set up for university life. These donations have been particularly important this year given the rising cost of living and accommodation. Every little helps, as the saying goes. Every year, the kindness and generosity of our graduates highlights the community spirit in the Vet School and the care our students have for each other. This donation drive also ties into our values around sustainability and the importance of giving back. We very much look forward to next year’s event!
New External Advisory Board Meets
The first meeting of the School’s new External Advisory Board (EAB) took place on 6 October when we were delighted to welcome our new EAB members to UCD. The School’s Management Team and Section Heads met with EAB members to give them an oversight of current activities across the School and to discuss the direction the work of the EAB may take. We look forward to working with the new Board over the coming years.
