Susie Mitchell
Susie Mitchell studied science at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and was awarded an M.A. in Zoology in 2000. She went on to study Veterinary Medicine at University College Dublin from which she graduated with an MVB in 2005.
After a brief stint in mixed and small animal practice, Susie has worked nearly exclusively in aquatic animal medicine since graduating. She completed a PhD in gill disease in Atlantic salmon in 2012 from TCD and is a diplomate of the European Council of Aquatic Animal Health since 2016. She spends most of her time driving all over the country visiting fish farms and aquaria as well as investigating outbreaks of disease in wild fish.
In her spare time, Susie is a keen track cyclist and has twice won at the World Masters Track Cycling Championships, in both the individual pursuit (2012) and the points race (2015).
She is currently still cycling but also competing at master’s level in rowing and athletics (discus and hammer throw). She lives in Carlow with her husband Cormac and their two children, Tori and Maya.
