AFBI Visit to UCD Lyons Research Farm
The AFBI (Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute) Senior Team recently visited UCD's Lyons Research Farm. The AFBI carries out high technology research and development, statutory, analytical, and diagnostic testing functions for DAERA (Dept of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs) and other UK Government departments, public bodies and commercial companies. During the meeting, UCD researchers from the Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture and Food Science presented an overview of key programmes of work currently being undertaken at Lyons, including research on high milk output from grass-based systems, factors influencing milk quality and processability, and the advantages of multispecies grass swards. Professor Michael Doherty, Dean and Head of the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine, commented that the UCD Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture and Food Science are ambitious for the Lyons Farm as a world-class platform for delivering outstanding research and teaching, and it will have a pivotal role to play in helping deliver the National Farmed Animal Health Strategy, which was launched at UCD on 11 July.
