UCD Values in Action Award for Dr Locksley Messam
Congratulations to Dr Locksley Messam who has been awarded a UCD Values in Action (VIA) award. (Pictured above receiving the award from UCD's Acting President, Professor Mark Rogers). Now in their fifth year, the awards celebrate individuals or teams and committees who act as ambassadors for UCD's Values through their daily work, volunteering or establishing initiatives that bring these values to life.
Locksley was recognised by the University for bringing UCD's values to life through the founding of the Self-Mentoring Group in June 2018. The aim of the group is to connect colleagues from across the University to share insights into teaching, research, and academic life, and to support each other in their career development.
The group has grown over time and gone from strength to strength. Currently, 19 faculty members from the College of Health and Agricultural Sciences and the College of Social Sciences and Law meet monthly for 90 minutes (either online or in-person) to discuss preselected subjects.
The Self-Mentoring Group is a voluntary activity, and over time Locksley has successfully grown a network of supportive colleagues who meet in a safe, inclusive environment. The group welcomes contributions from all members and promotes engagement through structured meetings that are focused and productive.
