Publication Success for Veterinary Medicine Graduate Eimear Byrne
Veterinary Medicine (MVB) graduate Eimear Byrne has published an article based on research carried out when she was an undergraduate MVB student. Eimear is the first author of '(opens in a new window)An arch worth revisiting: a study on the feline humeral supracondylar foramen and its evolutionary significance,' under the joint supervision of Drs David Kilroy and Sourav Bhattacharjee from the School of Veterinary Medicine's Veterinary Biosciences Section.
The project received funding from the Anatomical Society and was conducted in collaboration with the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. In this project, Eimear used the micro-CT technique to investigate the internal anatomy of the curious supracondylar foramen noticed at the distal ends of the feline humeri.
She previously presented the research findings at the Anatomical Society Summer Meeting 2022, and the data was subsequently published this year in the Biology Open journal. Additionally, in recognition of Eimear’s achievement as an undergraduate student and an early-career researcher, the journal published an interview with her. In the interview, Eimear, now a practicing veterinarian in Co Kildare, discusses what inspired her to become a scientist, the main findings of her research and her plans for the future.
