Dr Julia Eichenberg is an Assistant Professor at Berlin's Humboldt University. Until September 2011, she was an ERC Postdoctoral Research Fellow working on the project ‘The Limits of Demobilization”, to which she contributed a comparative study of paramilitary violence in Poland and Ireland after the First World War. Her earlier doctoral research focused on Polish veterans of the First World War and their participation in an international veterans movement.
She has published on violence, veterans’ welfare, pacifism and international collaboration in the interwar period. Recently, she edited a special issue of the Journal of Contemporary European History with the title 'Aftershocks. Violence in Dissolving Empires after the First World War'. She also co-edited (with John Paul Newman) a book on The Great War and Veterans Internationalism to be published by Palgrave Macmillan in Ocotber 2013.
