Mara Josi

Dr Mara Josi is an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow and an Occasional Lecturer at University College Dublin. Mara obtained her PhD (2021) at the University of Cambridge, UK, and her BA (2014) and MA (2016) at the University of Turin, Italy. Her forthcoming monograph considers the largest single round-up and deportation of Jews from Italy during the German occupation of 1943-45, which took place in Rome on 16 October 1943. It investigates this event from the original perspective of literary writings. It uses the methods of cultural memory to analyse the influence of literature on individual and collective memory.

Mara published peer-reviewed articles and chapters on the Italian Holocaust literature, on female diaristic writing during the Second World War, and on the years of lead in Italy. Her main area of interest spans from Italian and Comparative Literature to Narratology, from Holocaust Studies to Cultural Memory Studies, and from Gender Studies to Cognitive Literary Studies.
