Cookie Consent Management
What is the ePrivacy Directive?
The EU ePrivacy Directive requires that user consent must be obtained before a website can store a cookie or other tracking technology on a user’s device. On 6th April 2020, the Irish Data Protection Commissioner issued guidance on the implementation of this legal requirement and allowed a period of six months for organisations in Ireland to achieve compliance.
What is being done to achieve compliance?
In advance of this deadline, IT Services undertook to implement a Consent Management Platform (CMP) which gives individuals control over the cookies they allow. On 1st October 2020, the CookiePro CMP was rolled out to all centrally supported websites within UCD, comprising sites which were built using the Terminalfour Content Management System (CMS). In addition, instruction was provided to users of the Plesk hosting environment on how to implement the CMP solution.
What do I need to do?
It is important that you check if your school/unit operates websites that were not built using the CMS. If it does, your school/unit must ensure your site becomes compliant with the legislation. You can achieve compliance by either removing all "non essential" cookies or implementing a CMP. Further information is available in the FAQ link below.
