Resident in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
We invite applications for a four-year residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, starting 1 May 2025.
Programme Objectives:
• Clinical training in an ECVAA-approved residency, leading to the ECVAA Diploma.
• Completion of a Doctor of Veterinary Medical Specialisation (DVMS).
• Introduction to clinical research.
• Development of communication and teaching skills.
Key Requirements:
• Veterinary qualification eligible for VCI registration ((opens in a new window)www.vci.ie).
• Completion of a rotating internship or equivalent approved by the ECVAA ((opens in a new window)https://www.ecvaa.org/become-
• Strong motivation to obtain the UCD Professional Doctorate (DVMS).
• Interest in both small and large animal anaesthesia.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and English proficiency.
Programme Structure:
• Clinical training: Minimum 36 weeks/year under ECVAA Diplomate supervision.
• Research & publications: Participation in clinical research, aiming for two peer-reviewed publications and a DVMS thesis.
• Teaching & academic activities: Lecturing, tutorials, journal clubs, rounds, and seminars.
• On-call duties: 1:3 or 1:4 schedule.
• Case log management per ECVAA & DVMS requirements.

• Proof of clinical experience (internship certificate if applicable).
• Veterinary degree transcript (English translation).

Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted, with interviews likely in February 2025 (online or in person). A visit to UCD Veterinary Hospital before interviews is strongly recommended.
