7.1 Detecting

See Appendix G (References | General Reources).

7.2 Solving

If BIOS or RTC of a personal computer has a Y2K problem, it's highly likely there will be some type of software (either a BIOS upgrade or OS patch) available to solve the problem. Many vendors have upgrades available, and there are also many 3rd party solutions.

7.3 Time sources

7.3.1 NetWare Clients

A properly configured NetWare client will set the workstation date and time to that of the server when the machine connects to the server and/or when a user logs into a server. See Chapter 5 ( NetWare Client Issues ) for additional details.

7.3.2 NTP, Network Time Protocol

NTP is a generic solution to the problem of synchronising the clocks of multiple machines connected to a network. See Appendix G (References | NTP) for internet NTP resources, information and software.

7.3.2.1 NTP Clients

There are many implementations of time clients for a variety of OSes and platforms. See Appendix G (References | NTP) for availability of free, and non-free NTP clients.

Clients are available for NetWare, Windows (32-bit) and UNIX.
