Can we afford private regulation of food safety?
Traditionally controlled by the State, food safety and quality standards have recently been influenced by private standards schemes. Researchers at the UCD Institute of Food and Health are currently exploring the origins, legitimacy and potential effects of these schemes, with a primary focus on legitimacy.
This research will not only add to current studies of non-state governance, but will also provide an alternative narrative of how the safety and quality of our food is regulated.
