Democratic Innovations

Democratic Innovations is a research cluster that focuses on exploring novel approaches and mechanisms aimed at enhancing democratic practices and citizen engagement. Researchers in this field investigate a range of possible and real democratic initiatives, including various systems of direct democracy, deliberative forums, and digital platforms, designed to foster inclusive decision-making processes and strengthen the connection between citizens and government. At UCD, there are particular strengths in the study of citizen assemblies, especially how they have been developed in Ireland in recent years.
